Which Mountains Are Included in the Swiss Travel Pass? (2026)

Blog Section

    • Mountains are the reason most Indian travellers go to Switzerland, and they are also where the confusion about the Swiss Travel Pass begins. Some summits are completely free with the pass, most are around half price, and Jungfraujoch follows its own rule. This guide goes mountain by mountain so you know what the pass covers before you plan your days.

Swiss Travel Pass mountains at a glance

Three mountain excursions are fully included: Mount Rigi, Stoos and Stanserhorn. Most of the famous peaks are 50% off, including Mount Titlis, Mount Pilatus, Schilthorn, Gornergrat, Grindelwald First, Glacier 3000 and the Brienzer Rothorn. Jungfraujoch is free as far as Wengen or Grindelwald and 25% off beyond. In every case the train or boat to the base station is covered by the pass.

    • The free mountains: Rigi, Stoos and Stanserhorn

On these three, you simply show your pass at the base station and ride. Mount Rigi, the Queen of the Mountains, sits above Lake Lucerne and is reached by Europe's oldest cogwheel railway. Stoos is reached by the world's steepest funicular, and Stanserhorn by the open-top CabriO cable car. All three are an easy day from Lucerne, and together they are one of the pass's best hidden savings.

    • Jungfraujoch with the Swiss Travel Pass

Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe at 3,454 metres, is not free with any pass. The Swiss Travel Pass covers the trains from Interlaken to Wengen or Grindelwald, and from there to the summit, via the Eiger Express or Kleine Scheidegg, you get 25% off. It is still the single biggest saving the pass gives on most itineraries. In peak summer, book the summit ticket ahead, because the trains to the top fill up.

    • Mount Titlis from Lucerne

Titlis is the snow day in most Indian itineraries, and it is simple with the pass. The train from Lucerne to Engelberg is covered, and the cable cars, including the rotating Titlis Rotair, are 50% off. At the top you will find the glacier, the Ice Flyer chairlift and the Titlis Cliff Walk suspension bridge.

    • Mount Pilatus and Schilthorn

Pilatus, Lucerne's own mountain, is 50% off, whether you ride the world's steepest cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad or the gondola and Dragon Ride cable car from Kriens. The boat from Lucerne to Alpnachstad is included, which makes the classic Golden Round Trip good value. Schilthorn, famous for its Bond film history and revolving restaurant, is reached free as far as Mürren and 50% off from Mürren to the summit.

    • Zermatt: Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

In Zermatt, the Gornergrat cogwheel railway to the classic Matterhorn viewpoint is 50% off. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car, Europe's highest station at 3,883 metres, is discounted with the pass, and the reduced fare is applied when you book it with your pass. The train to Zermatt itself is fully covered.

    • Grindelwald First, Glacier 3000 and Brienzer Rothorn

Grindelwald First, with its Cliff Walk and First Flyer zipline, is 50% off. Glacier 3000 near Gstaad, home of the Peak Walk suspension bridge between two summits, is also 50% off, as is the steam cogwheel railway up the Brienzer Rothorn, which runs in summer.

    • How to plan your mountain days

Keep one day flexible for weather, because a summit in cloud shows you nothing, and the pass lets you swap mountain days at no cost. If you hold a Flex pass, make every mountain day an activated travel day, because the free mountains and discounts apply only on those days. And buy your mountain tickets together with your pass, so the discounted fares are applied and everything is paid for in rupees in one go.

    • Final thoughts

The Swiss Travel Pass turns Switzerland's mountains from a budget worry into a manageable part of your plan: three summits for free, most others at half price, and a real saving on Jungfraujoch. Pick two or three mountains in different regions, give yourself a weather buffer, and book the pass and mountain tickets together before you travel.
